Dos Poco Locos - Dominican Republic
Las Terrenas

Las Terrenas

Las Terrenas is a small town located in the north of the Dominican Republic in the province of Samaná. Its origin dates back to 1946. The president ordered the transfer of the poor from the capital Santo Domingo, here, to the north of the country, where they became farmers and fishermen. Las Terrenas is also known as a city of fishermen. It is also interesting that until 1994 no electricity was introduced here and getting here was quite an adventure. The road that led here through Sanchez was built in 1989, so the city and its inhabitants were completely isolated from the rest of the country until that moment. Overall, the province of Samaná has been known since the 17th century, mainly because England traded with slaves here. Today, the people of this province are mix of Taino, Spanish, West Indian and African slaves.

Turning away from history, today's Las Terrenas is considered the most European oriented city. There are very many French and Italians who have moved here not only their homes but also their business. Here you will find countless beautiful restaurants and bars, which are exactly what we are used to have at home.

It is said that whole Samana has as many palm trees as there are in the whole island. And it's true, when you come here, from the viewpoint of Mirador Coson, you will see the beauty. Las Terrenas is still untouched by commerce, so every lover of beautiful nature and everyone who has been here will tell you that you will experience the real Caribbean here.
