Samana Peninsula

Samana Peninsula

The Samaná Peninsula is located in the northeastern part of the Dominican Republic. It is about 40 km wide and 15 km long and is probably the most attractive part of the country. The region boasts a coastline lined with magnificent white sand beaches, huge shores with swaying palm trees and the turquoise waters of the Atlantic, which embody a beautiful Caribbean paradise on earth.

In addition to the beaches and spectacular geography, visitors also come to see thousands of whales migrating up close to the Bahía de Samaná during the winter. Santa Barbara de Samaná is the place (and also the capital of the province of Samana) from where you can get to whale watching. This attraction has become a thriving local industry and between mid-January and mid-March, their observation is guaranteed. When you are in the area, don't forget to explore the beauty of the island Cayo Levantado and its Bacardi beach.

If the rush in the more typical Dominican cities is too much for you, head east to Las Galeras, where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of this almost untouched part of the peninsula. Don't forget to visit El Cabito (a place at the "end of the world" with amazing sunsets)

Along the northern coast of the peninsula you will find the most European oriented city Las Terrenas. At the very beginning, do not miss Mirador Coson. In Las Terrenas you can explore the beautiful Caribbean nature - whether a beautiful and wild beach Playa Bonitaor Playa Coson, or the most beautiful beaches at El Portillo. The city offers variety of gastronomy or places where you can have fun. You can also easily get on a trip to El Limon with horse-riding trips or hiking options to a distant and stormy waterfall Salto El Limón. Other beautiful beaches can be found along the way to El Limon, especially the beaches Lanza del Norte or Playa Moron. Do you feel like adventure? No problem. Zipline Samana also offers such experience.

No matter which way you go. Samana will steal your heart.
