The Emergency Operations Center (COE) raised alert this Friday in the 19 provinces due to the downpours that will continue over the weekend due to the effects of possible tropical cyclone 22.
S RED ALERT - Pedernales, Barahona, Elías Piña, Independencia, San Juan, Azua and Bahoruco. All of them there are at the southwest of the country where National Meteorological Office (Onamet) expects significant rains.
Another 7 provinces are on YELLOW ALERT - Santo Domingo, Distrito Nacional, Peravia, Dajabón, Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa and San Cristóbal.
Five provinces were placed in GREEN. These are: San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, La Vega, Monte Plata and Sánchez Ramírez.
In the morning this Friday, the center of the possible tropical cyclone is located 250 kilometers west-southwest of Kingston, Jamaica. Rains are recorded over Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and also the Dominican Republic.
The potential tropical cyclone is expected to produce rainfall of 4 to 8 inches with maximum amounts of 16 inches in parts of Jamaica, southeastern Cuba and southern Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti) through Sunday morning. It has a probability of forming a tropical cyclone in 48 hours of 40%.
On the forecast track, the center of the system is expected to move across Jamaica later today, southeastern Cuba early Saturday and southeastern the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands on Saturday, according to the National Center of Hurricanes (CNH).
Juan Manuel Méndez, director of COE asked in alerted provinces to be careful and pay attention to the reports from the authorities.
COE recommend NOT to cross rivers, streams and ravines that have high volumes of water and NOT to bath in the rivers (balnearios) in the provinces under alert.
