The full name Santa Bárbara de Samaná is the capital of the province of Samaná, located in the north of the Dominican Republic, on the peninsula of the same name - Samaná.
This place is not so interesting for tourists, respectively a place where you would enjoy a typical Caribbean vacation, but it is the main point or transport hub on the peninsula itself. You can get from here to, for example Cayo Levantado, to national park Los Haitises, or whale watching. You can also go to El Valle and even to the town on the edge of Samaná peninsula, Las Galeras.
On the way through the city you can spot colorful houses - known as Avenida de la Marina, which are typical for the town. However, the icon of this city is the bridge or bridges leading nowhere, Los Puentes de Samaná. These are the three pedestrian bridges that connect the city of Samaná with the islands of Cayo Linares and Cayo Vigia - offering beautiful scenery and ocean views, boats moored off the coast of the city as well as the clear waters of the bay.
Santa Barbara de Samaná is definitely worth of your visit. Enjoy !
