For adventure seekers I recommend paddleboarding down the Rio Sabaneta de Yassica.

We used the services of Rugama Tours. It is in the middle of the forest, which can be reached by car or motorbike. Guinea pigs, rabbits, birds and a crocodile can be found in a small complex with accommodation, a restaurant...

The river journey is quite long, approx 2.8 km and ends at La Boca bay. The environment of the river is clean and you will be in direct sunlight most of the time, so I recommend a t-shirt and sunscreen. Small tourist boats also use this route. Although the river is quite narrow in some places, the captains are very considerate. The river is calm, without waves, but don’t expect clear water.

The route ends at La Boca Bay, there’s the Wilson Bar and Restaurant. Food and drinks are not included, so I recommend bringing cash with you.

Pro milovníky dobrodružství doporučuji paddleboarding po Rio Sabaneta de Yassica.

Využili jsme služeb Rugama Tours. Je uprostřed lesa, kam se dá dojet autem či motorkou. V malém areálu s ubytováním, restaurací najdete také zvířata včetně krokodýla.

Cesta po řece je poměrně dlouhá, cca 2,8 km a končí v zátoce La Boca. Prostředí řeky je čisté a většinu času budete na přímém slunci, proto doporučuji tričko a krém na opalování. Tuto trasu využívají i malé turistické lodě. I když je řeka místy dost úzká, kapitáni jsou velmi ohleduplní. Řeka je klidná, bez vln, ale průzračnou vodu nečekejte.

Trasa končí v zátoce La Boca, kde se nachází bar a restaurace Wilson. Jídlo a pití není v ceně, proto doporučuji mít s sebou hotovost.

The only remnant of Puerto Plata's colonial past. The ancient Spanish fort was built in 1577. The fort was the prison of the independence hero Juan Pablo Duarte.

The fort is not big and we walked through it in half an hour. For me personally, the most beautiful view is lined with walls.

-Amphitheatre
An outdoor open-air Greek amphitheater overlooking the ocean. Concerts and other artistic events are held here.

-Lighthouse
The lighthouse is located above the amphitheater. It was built during the reign of Gregorio Luperón to serve as a navigation point for ships sailing into the city's port. Entry directly to the lighthouse is prohibited.

-Puerto Plata sign
You can find the unmissable sign on the way from Foftaleza towards the center of Puerto Plata around the coast.

Puerto plata, Dominikánská republika 🇩🇴

Jediný pozůstatek koloniální minulosti Puerto Plata. Starobylá španělská pevnost byla postavena roku 1577. Pevnost byla vězením hrdiny za nezávislost Juana Pabla Duarte.

Pevnost není velká a prošli jsme ji za půl hodiny. Za mě osobně je nejkrásnější výhled lemovaný hradbami.

-Amfiteater
Venkovní otevřený řecký amfiteátr s výhledem na oceán. Konají se zde koncerty a jiné umělecké akce.

-Maják
Maják se nachází nad amfiteátrem. Byl postaven za vlády Gregoria Luperóna, aby sloužil jako navigační bod pro lodě plující do městského přístavu. Přímo k majáku je vstup zakázán.

-Nápis Puerto Plata
Nepřehlédnutelný nápis najdete po cestě od Foftalezy směrem k centru Puerto Plata kolem pobřeží.

Santiago de Los Caballeros prepared beautiful Christmas village in the park in front of “Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración”.
The village is full of lights, decorations. There is also Santa’s home, light balls and stars that you can cross through, 2024 sign and many nice spots you can take picture at.

It is open from 11 December 2023 until 7 January 2024 (6:00am until 10:00pm). Every day there is special acitivity for kids at 8:00pm full of singing, dancing and positive mood.

Do not miss visiting park at the Monument. It is just as beautiful.

Cabarete hosted on the weekend 8-10 December 2023 kitesurfing competition called DR OPEN. This event united kite surf enthusiasts of various age group.
Surfers showed their skills in front judges, other contestants and quite nice base of audience.
We enjoyed this event. It brought good vibes, some adrenaline and clear view of what exactly Cabarete excels in :)

The less than 5-meter tall statue of the mother of the Taino people, which was submerged in early March 2023.

Atabey is a historical, cultural, ecological and touristic link. The sculpture symbolizes the revival of indigenous wisdom to restore the biodiversity of the coral reef ecosystem. One of the largest underwater sculptures in the Caribbean, it is constructed of steel and a special PH-neutral cement, as acidity kills corals.

The sculpture is designed to attract a wide variety of marine organisms and has a textured surface for easy attachment of corals and sponges.

- 3 Rocks -

One of the best snorkeling spots for beginners in the province of Puerto Plata. The 3 tops of the coral rocks are at a depth of 9m, so you don't have to worry about kicking the corals. The white sand at the bottom of the ocean gives you a clear and clear view.

You can get here by cruise ship from Playa Sosua. It is combined with the statue of Atabey and Los Cabezos (a group of coral reefs around Playa Sosua). At the reef there is a large number of tropical fish, for example Sergeant Major, Tangs (Dory from Finding Nemo), Moray Eels, Cleaner Shrimps and others.

The trip is offered by several companies and the price is usually the same. You will see 3 different places- Los Cabezos, 3 Rocks and the statue of Atabey.

ONE OF THE MOST bizarre places on the planet.

The five-floor castle on the top of a hill in Sosua contains hundreds of unusual artworks, including alien-themed art, extraterrestrial messages, spaceships, Dominican and Haitian sculptures, cravings in stones and wood, murals or interesting paintings.

In 1990 German artist Rolf Schulz began his journey of building his own castle in the Dominican republic. Until his death in 2018, he lived there without electricity and running water.

On the top of the building, you can also enjoy a nice view of Puerto Plata Bay.

Secluded long sandy beach in Cabarete, towards the town of Sosua.

Perla Marina offers perfect views from the outdoor seating and the natural atmosphere of the entire area. It is maintained and clean. In the western part (next to the Las Olas hotel) you can walk through a small forest to a wonderful cliff, where you can enjoy the interesting waves, the sunset or swim in the tiny craters on the cliff.

Both edges of the beach are lined with sharp stones. On this beach there is a wooden seating area, a swing, a bar, a stylish outdoor mini gym, nets for children, the possibility of massages in the privacy of the second floor of an outdoor house overlooking the ocean. The entrance to the ocean at the hotel is quite steep, on the other side of the beach it is lined with sharp stones, but the access is steep. There are often high waves here, so check for red flags.

Fishing is very popular in the Dominican Republic.

If you are interested and located on the North coast, you can try it in Sosua (Puerto Plata province). There are many companies offering various boat trips, amongst them also FISHING. (The most preferred way is Trolling. It is a fishing style where you cast a line that moves slowly, for example from a running boat. )

You make a deal at least day in advance with them and you just show up in the morning at the parking lot and hop on the boat. They have everything prepared- fishing rods, baits and also beverages. So, it is also recommended for total beginners. Do NOT worry :-)

If you are lucky, you can catch beautiful fish. After you come back, you take your “trophies” home for consummation.
One of the most valuable types are tuna and Mahi Mahi (in Spanish it’s called Dorado). We made a tasty Ceviche salad from Mahi Mahi.
We also caught Barracuda, but the captain did not recommend to consume it. It can be dangerous because baracudas living around coral reefs eat venomous fish like Blowfish.

In the Dominican Republic you have to be careful when discussing how you want your work to be done in your house. Just a small mistake and your property can be unbelievably tuned 🙂

After the invertor burned down, the electrician came with a brilliant idea to connect a new cable to create another circuit from the circuit breaker to the house. It allegedly was supposed to fix voltage instability. I forgot to ask WHERE and HOW EXACTLY they plan to do it. 😁
This is how it ended in the garden of my house in Las Terrenas ...

COMMUNICATION:
Electrician: We know how to fix voltage instability in your house.
Me: How?
Electrician: We need to connect another cable from breakers to create a new circuit. We dig only a narrow pit in your garden to lay the pipe with cable.
Me: Well, let's start with that!
